Eon Mini Neurostimulator, Adam Hammond and Dr. Siwek

Eon Mini Neurostimulator; sounds like something from a science fiction novel, right? Well, it probably could have been at one point, but today it’s being used to treat chronic pain, and it getting national attention.

The Neurostimulator uses neurostimulation, an FDA-approved method of pain control, for the treatment of chronic pain of the arms, legs and trunk and pain from failed back surgery. Sometimes called the ‘pacemaker’ for pain relief, the Neurostimulator is roughly a bit smaller than a silver dollar, and delivers mild electrical pulses to the spinal cord, which interrupt or mask the pain signals’ transmission to the brain.

On Thursday, March 11, the television hit show The Doctors will feature this amazing device, as well as the first patient to use one, Adam Hammond, and our very own Dr. Siwek. Hammond was implanted with the device back in 2008, after a skydiving accident with the U.S. Army’s “Golden Knights” Parachute Team.

Hammond was so severely injured that physical therapy was nearly impossible. The Neurostimulator helped to control Hammond’s pain enough to make rehabilitation possible. Dr. Siwek will be explaining the importance of pain relief and the amazing advances in technology that allow The Pain Center of Arizona manage a patient’s pain.

Don’t forget to watch our Dr. Siwek on The Doctors, at2pm on KTVK Channel 3.
